Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, spoke at the European Political Community Summit in Budapest today, emphasizing the strong transatlantic cooperation and the implications of Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election.
Osmani stated that Trump’s election will further strengthen the transatlantic partnership, and that all parties should contribute to this effort. She highlighted that Kosovo has enjoyed bipartisan support from both Democratic and Republican U.S. administrations since the 1990s, and she expressed confidence that this support will continue under Trump’s administration.
“President Trump’s election will continue to strengthen this transatlantic relationship, and we must all contribute to this cause. Kosovo has benefited from bipartisan support from every U.S. administration. Since the 1990s, we’ve been fortunate to receive this support, and for this reason, we have every reason to believe that this support will continue with President Trump’s administration,” Osmani said in Budapest.
She also emphasized her belief that cooperation between the U.S. and Europe will persist under the new administration, and she rejected any notion that Trump’s presidency poses a threat to Kosovo’s interests.
“I do not see it as a threat. Kosovo has benefited for decades from U.S. bilateral support. We became independent when Republicans were in power and were liberated when Democrats were in power. We have worked closely with each administration, and I firmly believe that this will continue,” Osmani added.
