President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, warned today that if the attempt to form a new government fails in tomorrow’s parliamentary session, extraordinary budget measures will be necessary to avoid a crisis.

Speaking at a press conference alongside German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Osmani stated that she is prepared to consult with political parties to extend the current budget to ensure financial continuity:
“If there is no success, it becomes imperative to discuss approving a budget extension. We must ensure that our citizens, and not only tens of thousands of civil servants, but also many services paid by the state budget, are not blocked.”

Osmani underscored the severity of the situation, noting that:
“Such a scenario has never happened in Kosovo. It would be a critical situation ― we are talking about the most basic needs of our citizens being at risk without an approved budget extension until the end of March.”

She emphasized that these discussions will only take place if the government formation process fails, adding:
“I cannot prejudge the result of tomorrow’s session, but if it happens, dialogue with party leaders will begin immediately.”

This warning comes amid political uncertainty, with the Vetëvendosje mandate-holder Glauk Konjufca set to present his cabinet to MPs. Whether he will secure enough votes to form a government remains uncertain, raising concerns about institutional stability and financial governance.
