Osmani Pays Tribute to Eqrem Kryeziu: “An Intellectual Who Gave Democracy Its Charm”

Former Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has paid tribute to Eqrem Kryeziu following his death, highlighting his decades-long contribution to Kosovo’s political, academic and institutional life.

Osmani described Kryeziu as a distinguished intellectual who “gave democracy its charm,” emphasizing his dedication to public life and Kosovo’s state-building process.

“Professor, intellectual and tireless activist, Eqrem Kryeziu served his country with knowledge, courage and dedication,” Osmani wrote on Facebook.

She recalled his long public career, including his cooperation with Kosovo’s historic President Ibrahim Rugova, his role as deputy leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), mayor of Prizren, deputy speaker of the Assembly, member of parliament and university professor.

According to Osmani, Kryeziu left a lasting mark on Kosovo’s state-building efforts as well as on the development of Prizren, a city with which he remained deeply connected throughout his life.

“May the memory of Professor Eqrem remain eternal,” Osmani said, extending her condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, the people of Prizren and Kosovo as a whole.

Kryeziu, one of the prominent figures of the LDK and former mayor of Prizren, died at the age of 78.
