Vjosa Osmani has referred the issue of appointing members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) to the Constitutional Court of Kosovo for clarification.

The Presidency confirmed that the move comes after parliamentary groups submitted more кандидат nominations than предусмотрено under the Constitution, creating a legal ambiguity that requires judicial interpretation.

“The President has addressed the Constitutional Court regarding this matter. Once a response is received, the appointment process will continue. In the current circumstances, more nominations have been submitted by parliamentary groups than предусмотрено by the Constitution, therefore the Court must clarify the issue before proceeding,” the Presidency stated.

The development follows recent political proposals, including three candidates reportedly put forward by Vetëvendosje for the new composition of the CEC.

Under Kosovo’s Law on General Elections, the appointment of CEC members must be completed within 60 days of the certification of election results. Earlier this month, on March 9, President Osmani formally requested political entities to submit their кандидат nominations.

The Constitutional Court’s decision is expected to provide clarity on the procedure and ensure that the appointment process aligns with constitutional requirements.
