Prishtina, July 16, 2025 – Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani has addressed recent criticism from Richard Grenell, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, who accused her of misrepresenting former President Donald Trump’s statements regarding peace efforts in the Balkans.

In a press conference, Osmani clarified that her remarks were not an interpretation, but rather a personal understanding of Trump’s statements, made in her capacity as President of Kosovo.

“When I was asked about those very specific statements, I responded with how I understood them,” said Osmani. “I did not interpret President Trump’s words – I explained how I, as President, understood them.”

She urged citizens to listen to Trump’s remarks for themselves, specifically referencing his June 25, 2025 comments, to judge whether or not she had misrepresented anything.

“I invite citizens to listen to the statements I was asked about. Among them is the June 25 statement. You can hear it for yourselves. I invite you again to see if I have misinterpreted anything.”

Quoting Trump’s own words, Osmani recalled:

“You know, in recent weeks we took care of India–Pakistan, Kosovo and Serbia… Within a few months we made peace between India–Pakistan, Israel–Iran. Serbia, as you know, was about to go to war through a certain group – we stopped that.”

Osmani emphasized that her comments were a reflection of her understanding, not an official translation or reinterpretation of U.S. policy.

“If the position of the U.S. is different, then I believe that question should be directed to them. We highly value President Trump’s role as a peacemaker, a man who works day and night for global peace. My entire statement was meant to appreciate that contribution.”

Her remarks come amid increased political scrutiny following Trump’s recent comments positioning himself as a key player in de-escalating tensions in multiple global hotspots, including the Kosovo–Serbia standoff.
