Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, criticized the European Union for being “unfair” towards Kosovo in its policies regarding the Western Balkans, pointing out that the EU has not lifted punitive measures against Kosovo and has shown no willingness to consider its membership request.
Asked what the European officials have said in response to her remarks, Osmani stated that she had received no answer from them.
“The message we are receiving in Kosovo is that the more you align with Russia, the more you align with Iran, with China, the more progress you make, open more clusters, and close chapters. And if on the other hand, you are fully aligned with the EU, as Kosovo is, there is no progress for you. This is the message the people of Kosovo are receiving, and it has nothing to do with a process based on merit,” Osmani told foreign media in Brussels.
“We are not getting an answer to this constant question that we are asking, and we don’t want to discuss internal issues in Serbia, as it is their matter. But, of course, we talk about the constant acts of aggression that Serbia has carried out against the Republic of Kosovo, which are completely against international law principles, and the destabilization of neighbors is against the principle of good neighborly relations, which is required by the EU,” Osmani said.
Speaking on her arrival in Brussels for the EU-Western Balkans Summit, Osmani added, “It seems that there is a tendency within the EU among some member states to constantly condemn Kosovo.”
