The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, commemorated March 24 as a date of profound historical and emotional significance, highlighting the sacrifice of the Hajrizi and Berisha families from Mitrovica, who faced the violence of the Serbian regime.
In a public message, President Osmani stated that this date is not only a remembrance but also a testimony to the extraordinary strength of the Hajrizi and Berisha families, and to the pride Mitrovica has given Kosovo through men and women who never bowed.
Recalling the events of March 24, 1999, the President honored figures such as Professor Latif Berisha and Agim Hajrizi, along with his mother and young Ilir, who were killed by the Serbian regime on one of the most decisive days for the country.
Full statement from President Osmani:
*”For those of us who grew up in Mitrovica, March 24 is not just a day of remembrance. It is also a memory of the extraordinary strength of the Hajrizi and Berisha families, as well as the pride this city has given Kosovo through men and women who never bowed.
Today, on the anniversary of March 24, 1999, we respectfully remember Professor Latif Berisha and Agim Hajrizi, along with his mother and young Ilir, who were killed by the genocidal Serbian regime on one of the most decisive days for Kosovo.
At the commemorative academy and during visits to their families, we bowed in respect to their sacrifice, renewing the pledge that the memory of them will live forever in the history and consciousness of our state.
May God bless the Hajrizi family, the Berisha family, and the Republic of Kosovo.”*
