Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani has begun her official visit to the Vatican, where she met with Pope Leon XIV and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Career diplomat Albert Prenkaj, who previously served as Kosovo’s ambassador to Italy, commented on the significance of the visit, noting that President Osmani is seeking the Vatican’s recognition of Kosovo.
“President Osmani’s visit comes at the conclusion of the Jubilee Year proclaimed by Pope Francis, which ends on January 6, 2026,” Prenkaj said.
He added that the visit included a private audience with the Pope, similar to those held by her predecessors, and that the issue of Kosovo’s recognition was likely addressed during the meeting.
“I believe that besides diplomatic formalities and mutual expressions of gratitude, President Osmani presented her messages regarding Kosovo’s recognition, and Pope Leon XIV may have shared his own remarks,” Prenkaj said.
He expressed optimism, stating, “I expect positive movements from the Vatican regarding Kosovo in 2026.”
