President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, addressed the media regarding the budget situation in three municipalities: Pristina, Gjilan, and Zubin Potok.
President Osmani stated that she had requested political parties to convene and vote on the budgets.
“I asked the parties to gather and vote on the budget. For these municipalities, it was a special point, but they chose not to attend. This is permissible and not illegal, as a similar procedure was carried out under the Hoti government,” Osmani told Klan Kosova.
The municipalities of Pristina, Gjilan, and Zubin Potok are facing significant debt due to the failure to approve the 2025 budget in their respective municipal assemblies.
The budget has also not been approved by the Kosovo Assembly, as opposition parties deemed the procedure unlawful and boycotted the session called by deputies from Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (VV).
As a consequence, the Urban Transport lines in Pristina have been suspended, with company workers reporting that they have been unpaid for six months.
Workers staged protests initially in front of the Pristina Municipality and later met with the Mayor, Përparim Rama, at the Kosovo Government to seek intervention. Rama requested an urgent meeting with Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Acting Finance Minister Hekuran Murati to find a solution for the citizens of Pristina.
