The Media Office of the Presidency of Germany has confirmed that the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in the telephone conversation held on May 14 about Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, emphasized to the President, Vjosa Osmani, the importance of concrete steps towards the establishment of Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority from the institutions of Kosovo.

President Osmani had announced the conversation with the German counterpart on May 15, saying that during the discussion she had emphasized the great importance of successfully completing the process of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe.

I emphasized the vital importance for the successful completion of this process, to ensure that all our citizens benefit from the instruments of the Council as soon as possible. This phone call between Osmani and the German president took place a few days before the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and when it was known the strong position of the Government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz that Kosovo should take tangible steps towards the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority in order to get the support of allies to enter the agenda of the Committee and to get the vote for membership.
