A 53-year-old Kosovar, Sahit Idrizi, was arrested by authorities at the Port of Durrës after attempting to smuggle 49 iPhones into Albania, which he had concealed in his truck’s cabin.
According to police, the operation, codenamed “Smartphone,” was part of intensive border checks based on risk analysis and anti-smuggling measures.
“As a result of the operation, a case of goods smuggling was detected. The Kosovar citizen S.I., 53, residing in Kosovo, was arrested in flagrante. During the inspection of his vehicle at the Durrës Port entry point, dozens of iPhones were found hidden in the truck cabin, for which the individual had no purchase invoices,” the police statement read.
All smuggled phones, the truck, and two additional personal devices belonging to Idrizi were seized as evidence.
Authorities continue to investigate the case.
