The Kosovar diaspora in Switzerland is once again demonstrating strong engagement in Kosovo’s electoral process. According to information provided by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Switzerland, Mentor Latifi, voting preparations both for in-person voting and postal voting are progressing with increased intensity.

In-person voting for Kosovo citizens in Switzerland will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at three polling centers located within Kosovo’s diplomatic missions in Bern, Zurich, and Geneva. A total of 4,218 voters have registered for this voting method, including 2,114 in Zurich, 1,053 in Bern, and 1,051 in Geneva.

Following the completion of voting, ballot boxes will be sealed and stored in secure rooms. Their transport to Kosovo is scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2025.

Meanwhile, the highest level of interest has been recorded for postal voting. In Switzerland alone, 14,725 citizens have registered to vote by mail.

“By yesterday, 8,680 envelopes containing ballots had arrived at the mailbox established by the Central Election Commission (CEC) in Bern. Of these, 8,000 envelopes were collected yesterday by diplomats from the Kosovo Embassy in Bern, in the presence of three party commissioners from Vetëvendosje (VV), the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and were immediately dispatched to Kosovo via the CEC’s official transport,” Ambassador Latifi told albinfo.ch.

Latifi noted that due to year-end holidays and the festive operating schedule of the Swiss postal service, some envelopes are expected to arrive with delays. In the maximum scenario, this concerns approximately 6,725 additional envelopes, which are expected to be collected on January 5, 2026.

“These are only the remaining ballots that arrived after yesterday, as the overwhelming majority of envelopes have already been sent to Kosovo,” Latifi clarified.

This strong mobilization of the Kosovar diaspora in Switzerland once again highlights its deep connection to democratic processes and the importance it places on Kosovo’s political future.
