Statistics show that 1 in 8 women is affected by breast cancer, highlighting the critical need for awareness and regular medical check-ups. Data recorded this year show little change compared to the previous year.

At the Oncology Clinic, more than 300 breast cancer cases have been registered in 2025 — three of them men.

With the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there have been renewed calls for all women and girls to take extra care and undergo regular medical examinations to help prevent this disease.

According to Ilir Kurtishi, Director of Oncology, early diagnosis significantly improves the chances of successful treatment:

“Fortunately, most of these patients — over 50 percent — are diagnosed in the first and second stages of the disease, which makes treatment easier and more successful,” said Kurtishi.

He added that the figures for 2025 are similar to those of the previous year:

“It’s a good sign that this year, in the first nine months, we have recorded around 320–330 cases of breast cancer, including three men. This number is similar to that of 2024, and based on this trend, we expect Kosovo to end the year with similar figures — not exceeding 450–460 new cases,” Kurtishi stated.

Breast cancer remains a serious global health challenge for women. The October awareness campaign aims to encourage citizens to take preventive action — emphasizing that self-examinations and regular check-ups are the first step toward saving lives.
