The Acting Minister of Education, Arbërie Nagavci, visited the “Mitrush Kuteli” elementary school in Prishtina, where she met with parents of children with special needs to discuss ongoing efforts for their inclusion in the education system.
Nagavci highlighted that the ministry has so far hired 422 assistants to support children with special needs. She also announced that plans are underway to increase the number beyond 500, aiming to strengthen inclusive education across Kosovo.
On the other hand, school director Remzije Racaj praised the progress achieved but stressed that more support is needed.
“In recent years, our school has gradually improved. We now have a school psychologist, a support teacher, and this year we added two assistants. However, it is not enough for all the children we have. These children clearly need more assistants. We also plan training sessions for full inclusion within the school. We are trying to ensure that every child is treated as they deserve,” Racaj stated.
Currently, the school provides services for children with special needs through two assistants, one support teacher, and a psychologist, but parents and staff agree that the demand is still far greater.
