Despite not conducting any official work, the newly elected members of the Assembly of Kosovo and their personal assistants have already cost the state budget hundreds of thousands of euros.

To date, 43 attempts to constitute the Assembly have failed, leaving many newly elected MPs disillusioned and far from the expectations they had when entering public service.

Since the constitutive session began on April 15, MPs have received two and a half monthly salaries, even though most of the 43 sessions lasted only a few minutes due to disagreements over the election of the Speaker and the voting procedure.

So far, 103 MPs have received full compensation, while 17 others, who still hold positions within the caretaker government, have continued to receive their salaries from the executive.

The total cost of salaries for MPs between April 15 and June 30 has reached 478,692 euros.

In addition to the MPs’ wages, the state budget also covers the salaries of their senior personal staff, commonly referred to as parliamentary assistants — further increasing the financial burden of a non-functional Assembly.
