Hisashi Owada, former President of the International Court of Justice at the time the court issued the opinion that Kosovo’s declaration of independence in 2008 did not violate international law, and recently honored with the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the University of Prishtina, said that what has been achieved in Kosovo is a human triumph, not a victory between nations.

The globally renowned international law jurist, now holding the highest honorary title from the University of Prishtina, delivered a lecture titled “Why War – A Reflection on the Public Order of the International Community.”

“Professor Hisashi Owada considered the desire for power, deeply rooted in the human mind, as one of the forces that hinder efforts for peace. The honored professor, recalling the 1930s dialogue between physicist Albert Einstein and psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud on the greatest problems of humanity, noted that things have not changed much even today compared to that time,” reads the announcement distributed by the University of Prishtina.

According to the university, Professor Owada concluded his lecture with an optimistic message, emphasizing that humanity has historically achieved results and learned from its mistakes.

Owada expressed gratitude to the University of Prishtina for the honor bestowed upon him and to all those who contributed to making such a process possible.
