“Sooner or later, Albin Kurti will open the main bridge on the Iber in Mitrovica because Kosovo is an independent state. Not because of EU membership, UN recognition, or anything else, but because it has been established by the authorities in Belgrade, who no longer seek anything on the ground here. Belgrade can no longer send its responsible official for Kosovo, Nenad Radosavljević,” says the chairman of the Citizen Initiative Narodna Pravda and owner of RTV Mir from Leposaviq, to the Serbian newspaper “Danas.”
His comments come following recent events and the Kosovo Government’s attempt to open the Iber Bridge for vehicle traffic.
Radosavljević also believes that “for those who understand the situation, there is nothing surprising about what is happening now, because the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, handed over to Pristina the administration of Serbs in Kosovo, who might expect even worse conditions, especially regarding education and healthcare.”
“Official Belgrade initially took control of our fate and the right to decide on everything, then to issue recommendations, and now it is only concerned with what is happening. Kurti based his political platform, on which he won the elections, on his hatred towards Serbs, and it is precisely this stance that shapes the public opinion of Kosovo Albanians. In this situation, Serbs are fearful and lacking confidence because they do not see a prospect for their survival in Kosovo,” he claims.
Meanwhile, writes Danas, the mayor of southern Mitrovica, Bedri Hamza, who is also an official of the opposition PDK party, describes the recent moves of Kurti’s government as a “preconceived propaganda farce,” and claims that the bridge will be opened, but it is unknown when and how.
