In an exclusive interview with Euronews Albania, Palestinian Ambassador to Tirana Sami Mhanna explained why Palestine has not recognized Kosovo’s independence since its declaration in 2008.

Ambassador Mhanna emphasized that Palestine has no issues with the people of Kosovo and maintains good relations with Kosovar citizens. He stated that the main reason for non-recognition is Kosovo’s decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem, which Palestine views as a violation of international law.

Regarding Albania’s position in international forums, Ambassador Mhanna expressed disappointment that Albania often abstains on Palestinian issues, despite official support from President Bajram Begaj. He encouraged greater solidarity and public discussion of the Palestinian cause among Albanians, noting that the conflict is between Israel and the Palestinian people, not Hamas alone.

He also clarified that he does not believe Prime Minister Rama supports genocide, highlighting a nuanced understanding of Albania’s stance.
