The Palestinian Authority, based in Ramallah, has called for the recently announced ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel to be expanded to include the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement released by the office of President Mahmoud Abbas, published by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the presidency welcomed the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the ceasefire, urging that this step also be extended to cover the situation in Gaza.
“The Palestinian Presidency welcomes the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump of a ceasefire agreement. We call for this step to be completed by reaching a ceasefire that also includes the Gaza Strip,” the statement read.
The ceasefire agreement announced between Iran and Israel has attracted significant international attention, while Palestinian authorities have stressed that the priority must be achieving a comprehensive peace to end violence throughout the region.
