The city of Paris has paid tribute to the renowned Albanian writer Ismail Kadare, by unveiling a commemorative plaque at the address where he lived and created part of his universal literary work.

The news was shared by his daughter, Besiana Kadare, who announced that the Paris City Council had unanimously voted to honor her father’s memory in this way.

“The Paris City Council voted unanimously for the installation of a commemorative plaque at our address, 63 boulevard Saint-Michel 75005, where some of the brightest pages of Albanian literature were born,” wrote Besiana Kadare.

She described her father as “a European conscience forged in Albanian soil”, adding that “Kadare depicted the identity and journey of the Albanian nation as deeply European long before Brussels acknowledged it.”

Besiana Kadare said that this noble gesture by France and Europe honors not only Ismail Kadare, but also Albania and its cultural contribution to the spiritual and civilizational fabric of Europe — beyond political boundaries.

“Sometimes it is others who remind us best of who we are and what we have given to the world. Thank you to Paris and France for this luminous commemoration,” she concluded.
