Following several consecutive failures to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly, Kosovo’s Members of Parliament will convene once again today to continue the constitutive session of the ninth legislature. The sixth session is scheduled to begin at 10:00 and will focus on efforts to advance the stalled process.

In the most recent session held on Wednesday, the Vetëvendosje Movement withdrew the candidacy of Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker of the Assembly after failing to gain support from other parties. Glauk Konjufca called for additional time and a political agreement to avoid yet another unsuccessful vote.

The opposition reacted promptly after the session. The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, emphasized that Vetëvendosje must propose a new candidate who is acceptable to the parliamentary majority.

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), through MP Hykmete Bajrami, accused the winning party of deliberately blocking the process and lacking political will.

On the other hand, Vetëvendosje, through MP Mimoza Kusari-Lila, denied obstructing the constitution of the Assembly, arguing that a broader agreement between parties is necessary for progress.
