Workers from the Regional Waste Company “Pastrimi” staged a protest on Thursday, May 22, in front of the Pristina Municipality, demanding urgent action regarding unpaid municipal debts.
The protest follows the company’s decision on May 14 to suspend garbage collection in Pristina. As a result, trash containers across the capital are overflowing, with bags and waste spilling into the streets, raising serious public health and environmental concerns.
Pastrimi has stated that it was forced to halt its waste collection services due to an outstanding debt of €2.7 million owed by the Municipality of Pristina.
According to company officials, this financial impasse has made it impossible to continue operations, leaving thousands of residents affected and the city’s sanitation system on hold.
The protest highlights growing tensions between municipal authorities and essential public service providers, with urgent calls for the debt to be settled and services to resume immediately.
