The “Pastrimi” Regional Maintenance Company Workers’ Union has accused the Municipality of Prishtina of failing to offer a concrete solution to their ongoing demands during a meeting held on Friday, May 23, 2025.
While the Municipality announced earlier today that a €1.5 million contract for surface waste management services has been signed, the union says this does not solve the real issues they are facing.
“Despite today’s discussions, the Municipality has not provided any real solution to our core demands. The recently signed contract addresses a completely different service and does not resolve the ongoing operational crisis. The funds are not immediately accessible and do not enable a full return to operation,” the union said in a press statement.
The strike, which began on May 14, will continue until all demands are met, including:
- Payment for services rendered between January and May, which the union claims the Municipality has not settled. This payment is essential for fuel purchases and operational functionality.
- Urgent signing of a basic contract for regular waste collection services in Prishtina.
- Clarification and resolution of the company’s legal and financial status through a long-term agreement ensuring institutional support.
- Termination of contracts with private operators, which the union says offer parallel services that harm the public company.
- Mandatory consultation with “Pastrimi” on any decisions affecting waste management operations in Prishtina.
- Respect for worker dignity and rights, with institutional accountability in treatment and decision-making.
“Without fulfilling these demands, the strike will not end. Partial solutions are unacceptable and do not affect our determination to defend public interest, worker dignity, and the sustainability of our public company,” the union emphasized.
The Municipality of Prishtina denies owing any debt to “Pastrimi” and has accused the company of sabotage.
