The strike by workers of the regional waste management company “Pastrimi” entered another day on Monday, May 26, as demands for improved working conditions and benefits remain unmet.
Early this morning, striking workers once again gathered outside the Prishtina Municipality building, blocking access to the front entrance with parked company trucks, intensifying pressure on local authorities to respond.
Workers Demand Fulfillment of Rights
The strike, which has persisted for several days, stems from the workers’ unresolved demands, the specifics of which have not been officially detailed but are reportedly tied to pay, benefits, and working conditions.
“The strike will not end until all our demands are fully met,” said Ardian Krasniqi, head of the workers’ union, during a statement made on Sunday.
City services in waste collection continue to be disrupted, with growing public frustration as trash accumulates in neighborhoods across Prishtina and surrounding areas.
No Resolution in Sight
As of Monday morning, no formal agreement or negotiation progress had been announced. The Municipality of Prishtina has yet to issue a response addressing the workers’ grievances or proposing a resolution framework.
This ongoing strike highlights deeper tensions between public service workers and municipal management, amid growing calls for improved labor conditions in Kosovo’s essential service sectors.
