The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has filed an official appeal with the Supreme Court of Kosovo, challenging the decision of the Elections Complaints and Appeals Panel (PZAP) not to order a rerun of elections in Mitrovica.
In a statement released on Sunday, the PDK said the PZAP decision failed to reflect the documented irregularities observed during the voting process in the northern municipality.
“Today, the Democratic Party of Kosovo sent an appeal by registered mail to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kosovo, contesting the decision of PZAP, which rejected the request for a repeat vote in Mitrovica. PDK believes that the decision is incorrect and does not reflect the reality of the irregularities identified in the polling stations of this municipality. The evidence clearly shows that the process was compromised and that the will of the people was altered,” the party declared.
The PDK insists that only a complete judicial review will ensure electoral integrity and the respect of voter will in Mitrovica.
“With its request to the Supreme Court, PDK demands a thorough examination of the case and a decision that safeguards the integrity of the electoral process and the rights of the citizens of Mitrovica. The party reiterates its commitment to pursue every legal avenue to clarify and correct any irregularity, defending free voting and democratic processes in the country. In Mitrovica, only a repeat election can deliver justice to the citizens. In this direction, PDK will not stop.”
The call for a rerun follows reports of suspicious activities and procedural violations, which PDK argues significantly affected election results in the region.
