Former Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP, Hisen Berisha, has described the delay in constituting the Assembly of Kosovo as sabotage and a degradation of citizens’ will.
In an interview with Ekonomia Online, Berisha stated that the non-functionality of institutions is a consequence of the irresponsibility of political parties and elected representatives. “It has been laid bare that there is irresponsibility among those charged with creating institutions and representing citizens. There is irresponsibility towards the citizen and their vote. The constitutional patriotism of these people is at rock bottom, because this can be nothing good but sabotage against the state,” Berisha said.
He added that the delays and political haggling are calculations for personal and party interests, also mentioning the divisions among opposition entities. “Here we are dealing with sabotage, with the degradation and abuse of the citizen’s vote, because this 48-hour pause for one-minute sessions is an immune mechanism that the constitution enables so as not to consider the state or the assembly non-existent. Institutions cannot impose their will on those who represent the citizen within the institution. They are damaging the state not only in terms of the citizen but also in its external image to all friends of Kosovo. They must reflect. It is the last call. From a political position, agreements are being made that undermine the territorial integrity of the country and political sovereignty,” he stated.
The former PDK MP also commented on the meetings between Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti and Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma) leader Fatmir Limaj, characterizing them as part of a personal political strategy.
“It is a political and party calculation for their own interests. Political entities are a union of people who have common interests for the state or to fulfill a mission. As for Limaj, it’s not treason, but an incorrectness towards Haradinaj. He himself would have won eight to 11 seats in the Assembly. He has degraded, because his electorate did not agree to share the number of deputies with an entity that has never managed to cross the threshold. These are political calculations. Limaj is shrewd in calculations. He once miscalculated: that was when he split from PDK. Now he has made a clever calculation and is fighting for his own political position,” Berisha told EO.
