Abelard Tahiri, deputy of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), has demanded the immediate suspension of the decision by ZRRE (Energy Regulatory Office) to allow businesses to enter the free electricity market starting June 1, 2025, because this situation will further worsen the economic situation.

Tahiri, during a press conference, emphasized that the alarming electricity price figures so far are the result of rigged auctions and huge profits for companies connected to the Kurti government.

“The Democratic Party of Kosovo demands an extraordinary audit by the National Audit Office and independent auditors for the auctions, the beneficiaries, and the amounts spent, immediate suspension of the decision on businesses entering the free market; as well as a thorough investigation by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for all officials and actors involved in this scandal,” Tahiri added.

He stated that after three years of blocking by the parliamentary majority to prevent investigation of the energy sector, Kosovo citizens have the right to know the truth about the abuses that burden their lives and economy.

“The publication of official reports on electricity trading during last year has confirmed ongoing PDK denunciations of abuses in the energy sector. In just one day, the electricity transmission price rose from 2 to 798 euros per MWh, causing the budget damage of over 1 million euros in just 6 hours,” Tahiri said.
