The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) held a meeting of its Steering Council today, where it discussed the current political developments in the country, the outcome of the February 9 elections, and preparations for the upcoming local elections.
PDK leader Memli Krasniqi stated that the recent elections marked a turning point for the country by putting an end, as he said, to one-party dominance and monism. He described the election result as one of the best in the party’s history and viewed it as a clear signal from citizens for more mature and responsible governance.
Praising Bedri Hamza’s candidacy for Prime Minister, Krasniqi emphasized the stability of party structures, a developmental program, and the commitment of party members as key factors in PDK’s electoral success.
He criticized the Kurti Government for institutional deadlock and a lack of willingness to cooperate, recalling PDK’s proposals to overcome the situation, including the formation of a new government with opposition participation, led by Bedri Hamza.
Krasniqi called for full mobilization in preparation for the local elections, with the goal of maintaining and expanding PDK’s governance in municipalities. He stressed the importance of selecting dedicated and competent candidates.
In his remarks, Krasniqi also expressed concern over the decision of the Hague-based Kosovo Specialist Chambers to extend the detention of former KLA leaders, calling it an injustice and a violation of fundamental principles of justice.
PDK’s candidate for Prime Minister, Bedri Hamza, thanked party members and structures for their dedication, while the party’s Secretary General, Vlora Çitaku, underlined the importance of unity and the qualitative selection of candidates as key to success in the local elections.
