Abelard Tahiri, head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) parliamentary group, declared that his party does not support early elections. Instead, they are firmly committed to seeing Bedri Hamza become the next Prime Minister of Kosovo.

“We are not, a priori, in favor of taking the country to new elections. We don’t desire elections. We will insist that the next government be led by Bedri Hamza,” stated Tahiri in an interview with RTV21.

PDK Seeks Unity in the Opposition

Tahiri added that PDK will work to bridge differences with other opposition parties to secure consensus around their candidate, underlining a desire to form a new government without going to the polls.

“We will try to overcome the divisions within the opposition to ensure that PDK’s candidate, Bedri Hamza, leads the Government of Kosovo,” he said.

No Compromise on Leadership Mandate

When asked whether PDK would support LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku for prime minister, Tahiri responded that this was ruled out from the beginning of the campaign.

“If we are the first party, we will request that Bedri Hamza be given the mandate to form the government. If the positions were reversed and LDK had been the leading party, we would have supported Abdixhiku,” he clarified.

Context: Political Negotiations Heating Up

The political discourse comes amid increased speculation over government reshuffling, potential coalitions, and growing public dissatisfaction due to economic issues such as inflation and energy reforms. Tahiri’s remarks signal PDK’s clear ambition to lead the country without triggering a new electoral process, positioning Hamza as a unifying figure for the opposition and a stabilizing force for governance.
