Artan Behrami, a Member of Parliament from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), has criticized the decision of EULEX Chief Giovanni Pietro Barbano to appoint Christopher Gosnell as a new judge at the Special Court.

Behrami argued that this appointment proves the court does not report to the institutions of Kosovo, but instead to international missions.

In a statement on his Facebook profile, Behrami wrote:

“For those who still think that the Special Court belongs to Kosovo: look at how the head of EULEX appoints its judges. These judges do not report to Kosovo’s institutions but to EULEX and UNMIK.”

The reaction comes amid ongoing debates in Kosovo regarding the legitimacy and accountability of the Special Court, which was established to address alleged war crimes but is often criticized for its distance from local institutions.
