The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) reacted following the United States’ decision to indefinitely suspend the strategic dialogue with Kosovo, a process intended to strengthen economic, political, diplomatic, and defense relations.
In its statement, PDK emphasizes that this development is a direct result of the outgoing government’s leadership.
“This serious development is a direct consequence of the immature and irresponsible actions of the outgoing government and outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti,” the statement reads.
PDK further notes that Kurti’s behavior has undermined the partnership with Kosovo’s most important ally.
“His conduct has damaged trust and the partnership with our largest and most important strategic ally, the United States, a country that has been and remains the strongest supporter of Kosovo’s freedom, independence, and state-building,” the statement says.
According to PDK, following EU sanctions and now the U.S. decision, the country is sliding toward a dangerous path.
“After EU sanctions and now the U.S. suspension of the Strategic Dialogue, it is completely clear that the country is moving in a dangerous direction due to an irresponsible government. It is high time that all pro-Western political forces, with state-building awareness, unite to provide Kosovo with a responsible government that returns the country to the secure path of Euro-Atlantic integration—an enduring aspiration of the people of Kosovo,” the statement reads.
PDK describes the suspension of dialogue as the most serious blow to Kosovo in the past two decades.
“According to PDK, the suspension of the strategic dialogue represents the greatest political, diplomatic, and strategic damage to the Republic of Kosovo in 25 years of independence, directly undermining relations with our main ally and casting doubt on the international credibility of our state,” the statement continues.
The party emphasizes that Kosovo’s relationship with the United States is essential and must never be jeopardized.
“For more than two decades, Kosovo’s relations with the U.S. have been indisputable, based on shared values of freedom, peace, and democracy. Today, due to a government that has chosen conflict over cooperation and populism over responsibility, these relations are at risk. The Democratic Party of Kosovo reiterates that the relationship with the U.S. is vital and irreplaceable for Kosovo. We remain committed to preserving, strengthening, and expanding this partnership under any circumstances,” the statement adds.
Finally, PDK calls on all parties to treat the current situation as a serious warning.
“The damage caused to Kosovo by the outgoing government should serve as an alarm for everyone. Partnership with the United States is not an ordinary political matter but the foundation of our security, development, and future,” concludes PDK.
