French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a meeting of Kyiv’s allies in Paris in early January to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, as part of a potential peace agreement with Russia.
“We are bringing together the countries of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris at the beginning of January to finalize the concrete contribution of each of them,” Macron wrote on the platform X. The French president had earlier spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as other European leaders, reports HINA.
“We are making progress on security guarantees that will be key to building a just and lasting peace,” Macron said.
The announcement comes after Zelensky and Trump met on Sunday at the U.S. president’s residence in Florida. Trump appeared optimistic—though somewhat vague—about a swift resolution to the conflict, which has been ongoing since February 2022.
Trump and Zelensky stated during a joint press conference that an agreement on security guarantees between the United States and Ukraine was nearly finalized.
“These were very difficult negotiations,” Trump said, referring to the progress achieved.
“We discussed many points. I think we are much closer—perhaps very close—to an agreement,” he added.
Zelensky said significant progress had been made, noting that security guarantees for Ukraine had been fully agreed upon, while a peace plan to end the war between Ukraine and Russia was approximately 90 percent finalized.
