Lulzim Peci, director of the Kosovar Institute for Policy Research and Development (KIPRED), stated that he sees the Trump administration as a pathway to the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

According to Peci, the Balkans will eventually shift into the Western hemisphere, while President Donald Trump’s letters will better align with the West.

“It is not just about how to get out of the current situations, including the implementation of all agreements, including those of Brussels and Ohrid, but it also takes decisive steps toward a final agreement. Theoretically, yes, practically we need to see, it will depend a lot on geopolitical movements in Europe, we will see how the process in Ukraine goes. From what I can read about the policy of the Trump administration, it seems to me that the Balkans will ultimately transition into the Western hemisphere, and this is likely to be achieved in an agreement that the United States will also make with Russia to end the war in that country.”

“The letters that President Trump mentioned will be better for the West to take the decisive step towards normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia,” he said in the “Info Magazine” program.

Furthermore, the former diplomat spoke about the meeting with the new envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, and said that he showed optimism toward normalizing relations between the two countries.

“I was a participant in the meeting with Sorensen, where other civil society representatives were also present. From that meeting, I can say that Mr. Sorensen was not pessimistic about the dialogue process, he radiated optimism, and he said so himself. On the other hand, Mr. Sorensen knows the region very well, knows Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia, and I can say that this conversation was very substantive, not only related to the implementation of the agreements, which Mr. Sorensen sees as necessary, but also for preparing the ground for achieving a comprehensive agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.”
