Many countries have expressed their willingness to host potential negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, but it is too early to talk about this, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said today.
He stated that there are still no significant preparations for a meeting between Putin and Trump, but added that there is political will for it.
“Such contacts are very necessary and recommended,” said Peskov, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Earlier today, Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Waltz, stated that Putin and Trump are expected to speak by phone in the coming days or weeks.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that Serbia is interested in being the venue for the meeting between Trump and Putin, and that it can guarantee full security for both presidents.
Russia to Seek Alternative Routes for Energy Product Deliveries to Minimize Impact of U.S. Sanctions
Peskov also stated today that Russia will seek alternative routes for the delivery of its energy products in order to minimize the impact of U.S. sanctions.
The U.S. imposed sanctions on more than 200 companies and individuals connected to the Russian energy sector on Friday, as well as over 180 ships, aiming to limit Moscow’s access to international markets and reduce revenues from oil and gas exports.
As part of the sanctions package, restrictions were also placed on companies involved in the exploitation and processing of energy resources, as well as ships participating in transportation.
“First of all, measures will naturally be taken, and options will be sought to minimize the consequences of these sanctions,” Peskov told reporters.
