Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded Friday to recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had likened the war in Ukraine to a fight between small children.
Speaking on Thursday, Trump stirred reactions by saying:
“Sometimes you see two little kids fighting like crazy, they hate each other and are fighting in a park… Sometimes it’s better to let them fight a little longer and then pull them apart.”
Following these remarks, Russian media reported that Peskov was asked by journalists about Trump’s comparison. His response was firm: Russia does not see the war as a typical conflict but as a matter of national survival.
“Of course, the U.S. President may have his own view on what is happening,” Peskov said. “But for us, this is an existential issue – it concerns our national interests, our security, and the future of our children and our country.”
Peskov also expressed some understanding of American mediation efforts and emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue with the United States.
