Former EU Special Representative for Kosovo, Ambassador Wolfgang Petritsch, has stated that the non-recognition by certain EU countries, along with internal political deadlocks, is seriously damaging Kosovo’s path toward European integration.
In an interview with Rtv21, Petritsch emphasized that the primary responsibility lies with local institutions, which must address outstanding issues and find pragmatic solutions to ensure political, economic, and social progress.
He stressed that Kosovo must resolve its internal political matters independently, including the election of a new president.
“Let’s see what the Constitutional Court decides. From there, you should proceed: will there be new elections, which are not desirable, or will there be a parliamentary solution aimed at selecting and electing a new president for Kosovo? These are matters that the international community or Europeans cannot solve on behalf of Kosovo,” he declared.
