Croatia supports a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, and regarding the recognition of Palestine, the fact remains that Palestine itself has not recognized Croatia, said Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković while responding to questions from the audience after a lecture at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
“We understand the complexity of the situation, especially with the war that began more than two years ago. Unfortunately, we have no record that 33 years ago, or later, the Palestinian Authority made a decision to recognize Croatia,” the Croatian Prime Minister said in response to a question from the Palestinian ambassador to the Vatican, Isa Kasisieh, on whether Croatia would recognize Palestine.
He added that he contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and it was confirmed that such recognition had never occurred.
“I am not criticizing; I am simply stating this as information that should not be taken out of context,” Plenković said, according to Croatian media.
He reiterated that Croatia supports a two-state solution.
“The position of all Croatian governments has been and remains the two-state solution,” he emphasized.
Plenković also expressed regret for the high number of civilian casualties in the war triggered by Hamas’s terrorist attack on 7 October 2023 and said Croatia wishes to continue providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinian territories.
