Prime Minister Albin Kurti has once again shared on his profile on the platform “X” about the meeting he had yesterday with the CIA chief, William Burns, describing it as an important strategic meeting.
Kurti stated that Burns’ visit to Kosovo demonstrates the increasingly close cooperation between Kosovo’s intelligence and security institutions and the Intelligence Community.
During this meeting, Kurti mentioned that he reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace and security in the Western Balkans.
“I thanked Director Burns for the continuous support for Kosovo and reaffirmed our commitment to promoting peace and security in the Western Balkans. These shared objectives are only possible through a genuine commitment to the rule of law, democracy, and human rights by all countries in the region,” Kurti wrote.
He also announced the meeting on Facebook. He described the visit as historic and Burns as a brilliant diplomat.
“We want to further strengthen and expand the strong bilateral relations with the United States of America. The visit of CIA Director, the brilliant diplomat William Burns, was an excellent opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics and to deepen and advance our strategic cooperation in service of democratic peace and Euro-Atlantic security in the region and beyond,” Kurti wrote.
Burns also met with President Vjosa Osmani.
His visit to Kosovo follows reports of his visits to Belgrade and Bosnia.
No details have yet emerged regarding his visit to Serbia, and it has not even been confirmed.
Meanwhile, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on August 20th, Burns met with his counterparts from the intelligence sector, members of the Presidency of this state, and the Foreign Minister of Bosnia.
A U.S. government official told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) that the reason for the CIA chief’s visit to Sarajevo, among other things, was due to the troubling separatist rhetoric and actions of the pro-Russian president of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, and the Government of this entity.
Burns was appointed to the position of Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency by President Joe Biden in January 2021.
Burns is a central figure in President Joe Biden’s administration, as he is also a member of the presidential cabinet of the White House. Previously, he served as an ambassador to Russia.
