Poland will launch an investigation into possible links between the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Russian intelligence services, as well as any potential impact on Poland, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday.

The recent release by the U.S. Department of Justice of millions of internal documents related to Epstein has revealed the late financier’s and convicted sexual abuser’s connections with numerous prominent figures in politics, finance, academia, and business both before and after he pleaded guilty in 2008 to prostitution-related charges.

Speaking at a government meeting, Tusk said authorities would establish a special team to examine any possible repercussions of Epstein’s crimes in Poland, with particular focus on what he described as potential involvement by Russian secret services.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a written request for comment regarding Tusk’s allegations. The Russian Embassy in Warsaw also did not immediately reply to an emailed request for comment.

Reuters reports that Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in December that the Epstein files demonstrate the hypocrisy of Western elites.

“Here, as I understand it, were all the ‘Western lecturers on life’ who looked down on Russia with contempt and lectured us about ‘democracy and human rights,’ while posing in interesting situations with equally interesting partners in their free time,” she wrote on Telegram, according to Rks News.
