The Kosovo Police have announced their operational plan and security engagements to ensure the smooth conduct of today’s electoral process across the country.

According to the police statement, a sufficient number of police officers—primarily from public order units—have been deployed, with the option to engage officers from other specialized units if necessary. Under the operational plan, police officers began working 12-hour shifts starting at 03:00, which included the opening of command rooms, the secure escort of sensitive electoral materials from municipal depots to polling stations, and the continued provision of security throughout the process.

The police emphasized that the main objectives of the operational order for this electoral process are:

  • Creating a calm and secure environment for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, while maintaining public order, peace, and safety before, during, and after the elections.
  • Increasing vigilance and ensuring the security of polling stations, municipal depots, and vote-counting centers.
  • Ensuring the safe transport and protection of all sensitive electoral materials in accordance with the security plan, until the completion of the police operation related to the elections.
  • Initiating and prosecuting any criminal offenses against voting rights, and taking all necessary procedural and criminal measures against anyone violating laws governing free and democratic elections, in close coordination with the State Prosecutor’s Office.

The Kosovo Police also stated that investigators have been designated within regional directorates to handle any cases related to the electoral process.

“Under the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Police, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Central Election Commission (CEC), the Kosovo Police have appointed officers and investigators in regional directorates to address any potential cases related to the electoral process, acting under the authorization of designated prosecutors,” the statement said.
Additionally, police coordinators have been assigned to liaise with the CEC, and officers have received clear instructions regarding their legal duties and responsibilities during the elections.
