Multiple police vehicles and officers were stationed in the city center shortly before 11 a.m., ahead of a planned student protest at the Serbian National Theatre (SNP).

The protest, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., was organized by students in response to the planned celebrations marking 200 years since the birth of Svetozar Miletić, a 19th-century politician and mayor of Novi Sad. Students voiced concerns that state officials would attend the ceremony, prompting calls for public demonstration.

The students, currently blockading the University of Novi Sad, called their event “Hands off Miletić!”, posting on social media: “We are waiting for you.”

Police presence extends from the SNP building to nearby locations including the City Hall, while official announcements regarding the protest have not yet been released. Earlier this month, the Provincial Government formed a committee to organize the commemorations of Miletić’s bicentennial. Radio-Television Vojvodine has announced it will broadcast the ceremony live.
