The Kosovo Police is currently conducting an operation at several locations in the north of Mitrovica, related to threats made by the Social Work Center against some citizens a day before the February 9th elections, reports Gazeta Sinjali.
According to initial information, the operation is being carried out under a court order, as a day before the elections, several officials from the social work center are suspected of having threatened citizens via phone, instructing them on who to vote for.
The news was confirmed to Sinjali by the Deputy Director of the Police for the North region, Veton Elshani.
“On February 8, 2025, a day before the Parliamentary elections in Kosovo, we arrested 4 individuals (officials from the Social Work Center in Zubin Potok) in relation to the act of influencing voters.
In fact, these officials from the social work center, which was part of the parallel/illegal structures, are suspected of having called various citizens by phone, and under the form of threats, forced or instructed them on how to vote, conditioning social aid on their vote in favor of a specific political party participating in the parliamentary elections in Kosovo.
Regarding our investigative work, we notified the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Mitrovica, from whom we requested permission to search these centers in order to gather evidence that would confirm the exact method of this illegal activity, which is considered as document falsification.
The Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Mitrovica approved our request and subsequently sent their request for a search warrant to the court, which was granted. We are now conducting the search of these centers under a court order,” he emphasized.
