Albanian police have intercepted a shipment of drugs and explosives in Pukë, intended for trafficking into Kosovo, authorities confirmed. A 29-year-old suspect, identified as L.P., has been arrested in connection with the case.
The operation, codenamed “Varkëtari”, uncovered 1.2 kilograms of cannabis, 405 grams of TNT, 51 detonator caps, 5 meters of fuse, military-grade ammunition, and a sum of cash.
According to police, the suspect transported the contraband by boat from the village of Apripë, Pukë, across a local lake to Tropojë, where he parked his vehicle in an attempt to evade authorities. He was apprehended in the village of Dushaj while traveling in a Volkswagen car with the illicit materials hidden in the trunk.
The DVP Kukës, in collaboration with the Tropojë Police Commissariat and the special unit “Shqiponja,” conducted the operation based on intelligence about the intended transport to Kosovo. Authorities are now working with Kosovo counterparts and the Prosecutor’s Office to identify and apprehend the potential buyers.
Procedural materials have been submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office for further legal action.
