More details have emerged from the meeting in Helsinki of NATO’s eastern flank leaders, where Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the issue of drone defense.
According to international media reports, Tusk stated during the meeting that the development of counter-drone defense has become a priority area in which EU member states are prepared to invest heavily.
“We are currently working on this… on building a wall against drones, and we are talking about billions in spending,” Tusk said.
Plans to establish a counter-drone “shield” along Europe’s eastern borders were accelerated after approximately 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace in September, as well as following similar incidents in Romania, Denmark, and Germany.
The European Commission said the project would include a network of sensors, jamming systems, and weapons designed to detect, disrupt, and neutralize drones.
