Zdravko Ponoš, President of Serbia Centre, delivered a scathing critique of the current Serbian government, accusing it of inflicting unprecedented damage to the nation’s interests on a daily basis. According to Ponoš, the regime has entered a “completely insane phase,” recklessly harming the country without any regard for consequences.
“The government is on a clear downward path, largely due to its own actions. Every foolish move they make stirs anger and frustration among the people. It’s crucial that we stay focused, and we can resolve our differences afterward,” Ponoš told Blic TV, emphasizing the need for dialogue within a society being undermined by those in power.
Ponoš highlighted that dialogue between the opposition and this government has become meaningless. Whenever the regime talks about dialogue, it is either mockery or a manipulative attempt to secure favorable counts in Brussels.
He criticized the government’s control over the media, calling out the so-called “mimicry media” that pretend to be free but exist solely to create the illusion of space for discussion.
“First, the new government must make everything transparent, unlike this one that operates in the shadows. We didn’t even know what manipulations were being done with the General Staff, the Ohrid and Washington agreements. Even Vučić himself was reportedly surprised when he realized what he was expected to sign in front of Donald Trump,” Ponoš said.
The Serbia Centre leader also called for accountability, stating that some officials should face imprisonment. He further condemned the government’s approach to foreign policy, particularly its empty promises of European integration. “The European path must be substantive, not declarative. This government has done the opposite, winning elections while promising integration. Meanwhile, countries like Montenegro, Albania, and now Moldova are advancing faster despite weaker institutional capacity,” Ponoš noted.
Ponoš’s statements paint a picture of a government recklessly steering Serbia toward institutional decay, undermining democracy, and prioritizing self-interest over the nation’s future.
