Pope Leo is set to revive the long-standing tradition of papal summer holidays in Castel Gandolfo, a small historic town near Rome, from July 6 to July 20, according to RKS News.

The move marks the first papal retreat in Castel Gandolfo in 12 years, after Pope Francis chose not to use the traditional summer residence and converted the Apostolic Palace into a public museum.

Located just outside Rome, Castel Gandolfo has about 8,900 residents and is renowned for its papal palace and Renaissance gardens, owned by the Vatican since 1596.

Unlike his predecessor, Pope Leo plans to stay in the palace, sparking enthusiasm among local residents and business owners, who see his visit as a boost for tourism and the local economy.

The Pope is also expected to participate in local religious festivities on July 13 and 20, making public appearances, while the museum will remain open throughout his stay.
