Kosovo again becomes the subject of debate in the parliament of an EU member state, not for possible recognition as in the case of Spain, but for what recognition. The Populist Party of Freedom in Austria, which came first in this month’s European elections, submitted a draft resolution to the Austrian parliament, through which it asks it to declare against the independence of Kosovo.
In the request submitted by the head of the parliamentary group of the party, Maximilian Kraus and deputy Anton Mahdalik, and which is currently under discussion, it is emphasized that Kosovo is not an independent state.
“Kosovo was part of Serbia” and contrary to international law it was separated from Serbia after the NATO bombings in 1999. Until today, most countries have not recognized it as independent. The recognition of Kosovo by the USA and European countries not only violated Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also UN Resolution 1244″, says the Austrian Freedom Party (FPO).
In the draft resolution, it is emphasized that Kosovo’s relations with Serbia have deteriorated even more; that the Albanian-Muslim majority is against the Serbian Orthodox minority, and that the legal and political autonomy of the minority is not guaranteed.
The right-wing party talks further about deficits in the rule of law, and the fight against corruption, while mentioning organized crime as a particularly big problem. For all this, says the party of freedom, we submit a request against the recognition of Kosovo and its membership in the EU./a2cnn
