The Government Commission for Missing Persons has estimated that excavations at the Kozhlje site in Serbia, under suspicion of a possible mass grave, could take up to two weeks.
Kushtrim Gara, a commission member, noted that the lack of cooperation from the Serbian side is complicating the process.
“This is a very specific location, and it is too early to provide precise timelines for how long the excavations may take. Today, a two-week period has been set to assess the marked area. Even prior to discovering this site in 2024, some preliminary excavations were conducted but were halted by the Serbian authorities,” Gara told RTK.
Meanwhile, Andin Hoti, head of the commission, stated that an evaluation is ongoing to determine the feasibility of starting the excavation with a Kosovar team, in coordination with ICRC, EULEX, and the Serbian side.
