A powerful tornado swept through neighborhoods in northern Paris on Monday, causing significant damage and claiming one life, while four people were critically injured.

The storm toppled three construction cranes, leaving behind widespread destruction across approximately 10 neighborhoods, with the city of Ermont, located around 20 kilometers northeast of Paris, being the hardest hit.

Casualties and Damage

Regional prosecutor Guirec Le Bras confirmed that the victim was a 23-year-old construction worker who died at a building site. Ten others were injured, four of whom are in critical condition.

Authorities reported that the tornado blew down cranes and ripped off rooftops, causing extensive material damage.

Official Reactions

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the tornado as a “rare and intense phenomenon” on X (formerly Twitter). He stated:

“I am closely monitoring the situation and extend my support to officials, rescue teams on the ground, and the affected residents. My condolences go to the family and loved ones of the deceased.”

Dramatic Visuals and Rescue Efforts

Videos circulating on social media captured the dramatic moment three cranes collapsed within seconds of each other. One crane fell on a clinic without causing injuries, while another struck a residential building.

French authorities dispatched dozens of firefighters, police, and medical personnel to the scene to assist in rescue operations and assess the damage.
