A court has ordered pre-trial detention for a suspect identified by the initials A.D., arrested for war crimes in Kaçanik during 1999, according to sources cited by RKS News.

The detention hearing took place on April 5, following a request submitted the previous day by Kosovo’s Special Prosecution.

According to the Special Prosecution, A.D. was a member of the Serbian Ministry of Interior (MUP) in Ferizaj and a traffic police officer in the Kaçanik region. He is accused of forcing residents to leave their homes during a police-military operation against the Albanian civilian population on March 9, 1999, after which the homes were burned and destroyed.

The prosecution states that 91 men were separated from a group of about 400 men, women, elderly, and children and taken to the Kaçanik Police Station. Among them, 13 civilians were detained for questioning and allegedly beaten and tortured in a brutal, inhumane manner, sustaining serious injuries to different parts of their bodies.

A.D. was arrested on April 4, 2026, under suspicion of committing war crimes against civilians in the village of Ivajë and surrounding areas in Kaçanik. During the search of his property, police confiscated ammunition, weapons, MUP uniforms, and other equipment.
